Teenage painter gets drink-driving ban after row with girlfriend

A teenager was caught drink-driving after an argument with his girlfriend in the early hours.

Ryan Bowman, 19, was seen behind the wheel of a silver BMW at just before 4am on Sunday, September 27, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Gary Fothergill said officers saw him exit Elba Park Estate onto the wrong carriageway of the A183 Chester Road, before clipping a roundabout with his rear wheel.

The apprentice painter was stopped and arrested and found to have an alcohol reading of 57 microgrammes in 100ml of breath – the legal limit being 35.

Bowman, of Park View, Shiney Row, admitted drink-driving.

He was banned from driving for 15 months and was told to pay a £110 fine, £85 costs, £20 victim surcharge, and £150 criminal courts charge.
