Teenage girl remains in hospital after incident in East Rainton left her seriously injured

A 17-year-old girl remains in hospital due to serious injuries suffered in an incident in East Rainton.

The teenager was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Thursday, January 9, prompting a police investigation in the area.

An 18-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 39-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice have both been released under investigation while detectives’ inquiries continue in the area.

Police attended the scene of an incident in East Rainton.

A Northumbria Police spokesman told the Echo: “We are continuing to investigated a suspected road traffic accident on the Old Railway Line in East Rainton that resulted in a 17-year-old girl being taken to hospital with serious injuries. She remains in hospital in a stable condition.”
