A teenager has been told he must register as a sex offender after being caught with almost 3,000 indecent images of children.
John King pleaded guilty to making and possessing 2,879 sickening pictures when he appeared at a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court today.
The 19-year-old, of Glencourse, East Boldon, will be sentenced next year but was told he must register his name as a sex offender immediately.
Judge Brian Forster told him: “I can not say what the sentence will be but you must now register as a sex offender with the police.”
The judge said King must keep appointments for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
Judge Forster added: “It is important the judge dealing with the case has as much information about you as possible to understand what has been going on and what the surrounding circumstances are. “
Vic Laffey, defending, said King will be seen by the mental health team before the case is back at court.
Mr Laffey added: “He is 19 years old and never been in any sort of trouble before.”
