A TEENAGER is to stand trial over claims he tried to burn his girlfriend’s house down following a row.

Marc Alan Quinn, 18, is alleged to have set fire to a sofa and pillows at the Sunderland home on Tuesday, December 23.

He is alleged to have told his girlfriend that he would “burn her house down” and caused at least £700 damage to property belonging to her.

Quinn, of East View, in Castletown, appeared at a short hearing at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he was represented by defence solicitor Jason Smith.

Quinn pleaded not guilty to the charges of arson and making a threat to damage property and also denied causing criminal damage to his girlfriend’s possessions.

A trial date of Thursday, February 19, was set at the magistrates’ court by District Judge Roger Elsey.

Quinn was remanded in custody in the meantime although an application for bail will be heard again by the court on Monday.
