A TEENAGER has appeared in court after he allegedly set fire to his room in a care home.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with one offence of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was arrested after a fire at the council-owned care home in the early hours of March 14, which caused £2,000 of damage.

The teenager was not asked to enter a plea to the charge during the hearing at Sunderland Youth Court yesterday.

Magistrates adjourned the case until May, for committal to Newcastle Crown Court.
