A THIEF went on a stealing spree at a pound shop.

Ryan Morris, from Sunderland, helped himself to fudge, chocolate flakes, bin liners and drink from Poundland in High Street West.

Morris, 19, of Emsworth Road, Carley Hill, pleaded guilty to the theft, worth £4, at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said that the thief was caught on CCTV.

Peter Thubron, defending, said the offence took place on March 6, but Morris was not charged until May.

“It is a theft from Poundland and it seems they want their pound of flesh,” he added.

Morris was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
