Allison, of Twickenham Road, Sunderland, was jailed for applying a corrosive fluid with intent at Newcastle Crown Court in October last year.

She was given a six-year jail term, with three years on extended licence, after being branded a danger to the public.

Yesterday she asked a top judge at London's Criminal Appeal Court to overturn the finding that she was dangerous. The court heard that Allison had a child with Mr Gould during their previous relationship.

Before launching her attack, she fired off a series of text messages to Mr Gould's new wife, then turned up at their home on the Ford Estate, Sunderland, in March last year.

When her ex came outside, she squirted the dangerous cocktail on his face and neck, with some liquid entering his eyes.

She protested about her extended jail sentence and categorisation as a dangerous offender, pointing out that a psychiatrist had assessed her as posing a high risk to her ex-partner, but not a danger to the public at large.

Judge Rupert Mayo QC threw out her sentence challenge. The appeal application was refused.
