Sunderland street brawl accused to appear at crown court

EIGHT men have appeared in court accused of taking part in a terrifying brawl in the street.

The accused were charged with affray after an alleged incident in the Chester Road area on Wednesday.

The incident is said to have taken place shortly before 3.30pm in Brunton Terrace.

The men appeared before Sunderland Magistrates’ Court today.

They are Abdul Shanoor, 25, of Rosslyn Terrace; Syed Fazlul Shihab, 29, of Western Hill; Abdul Jilani, 35, of Rosslyn Terrace; and Syed Monsural Hoque Talha, 45,of Croft Avenue.

Also, Abdul Wahab, 32, of Rosslyn Mews; Abdul Rob, 30, of Brunton Terrace; Humayun Rashid, 34, of Athol Road and Syed Ashan, 38, Athol Road, were brought before city magistrates.

Magistrates ruled that the case was too serious for them to deal with and the next hearing will place at Newcastle Crown Court.

The defendants were all granted bail. A plea and case management hearing will take place at the crown court on July 19.
