SUNDERLAND star Stephane Sessegnon has been charged with drink driving.
The Benin international was stopped by police in Westgate Road, in Newcastle, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.
It was at almost exactly the same time as Sessegnon’s team went 1-0 down to MK Dons in their Capital One Cup tie at the Stadium of Light.
Paolo Di Canio’s team eventually rallied from 2-0 down to win the game 4-2.
Sessegnon was not part of the squad for the game.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 7.51pm last night a 29-year old man was stopped by police on Westgate Road in Newcastle.
“He was subsequently charged with drink driving.”
Sessegnon will appear before Newcastle Magistrates on October 4.
