Paul Knight, 30, spent over three hours away from his home in Stockton Terrace, Grangetown, when he should have been indoors overnight on Friday May 1, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard.

His breach was discovered when an electronic checking system showed he was not present and a follow-up phone call to his home by system monitors went unanswered.

The court was told Knight’s grandfather has recently died and he was helping care for his grandmother, leading to him to breach his bail conditions.

Knight had been bailed by Newcastle Crown Court on March 3 and will be sentenced there for assault on May 18.

He was rebailed on condition he resides at Stockton Terrace, abides by a 7pm to 7am curfew and does not contact prosecution witnesses.
