A man has been jailed for more than four months just a day after harassing and intimidating a woman.

Michael O’Connor, 38, of Barclay Lodge, Barclay Street, Sunderland, was imprisoned for 18 weeks after a court deemed the “offence so serious because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders”.

South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard his actions on Monday, June 15, were also “aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending”.

O’Connor admitted one charge of harassing and intimidating a woman in breach of a restraining order imposed by the same court in November of last year.

He was also ordered to a pay a victim surcharge of £128 at a rate of £20 per month from the beginning of this December.

O’Connor’s early guilty plea was taken into account when the court was considering its sentence on June 16.
