Sunderland man jailed just 24 hours after he is caught with knife

A man caught illegally carrying a knife was jailed just a day later.

Ryan Richardson, 31, of Burscough Crescent, Sunderland, admitted unlawfully possessing a bladed article in a public place in the city centre on September 22 when he appeared in court the following day.

South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court decided to imprison him for 21 days because “the offence was aggravated by the defendant’s record of previous offending”.

Richardson, who received credit for his immediate guilty plea, must also pay a £128 victim surcharge.
