A concerned former boyfriend bombarded his ex-partner with texts and emails despite being told by police not to contact her.

Lee Rathbone, 42, sent messages to his ex-girlfriend between April 15 and April 25, after he heard that she was in hospital having taken an overdose.

Prosecutor Sue Baker said police were contacted by hospital staff after the victim told them “I’ve had enough of him, I want to get away from him”.

Rathbone, of Presthope Road, Pennywell, admitted harassment. Ian Cassidy, defending, said none of the messages were of a threatening nature and he was simply enquiring about her welfare, after teh end of their “on-off relationship”.

Rathbone was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and restraining order.

He was told to pay £85 costs, £15 surcharge, and £150 criminal courts charge.
