A SUNDERLAND man accused of sexual offences from more than 40 years ago is facing a retrial.

Gavin Cook, 60, of Craigshaw Square, Hylton Castle, denies two offences of indecent assault allegedly committed when he was at Aycliffe Approved School in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, in the late 1960s.

A jury at Durham Crown Court began hearing the case on Tuesday but was discharged yesterday.

The case will be retried on a date to be fixed and Cook was released on bail.
