A MAN has been warned he faces jail after being caught performing a sex act on himself in public.

Mark Adams, also known as Marcus Crennell, was spotted by a couple looking out of their bedroom window in Carley Road, Southwick, at about 11.20pm on September 8 and police were called.

The court was told he had a record of similar matters dating back almost 20 years.

Adams, 42, of Gordon Terrace, Southwick, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency.

Chris Wilson, mitigating, said: “Before you today is a complex young man, who has had a number of mental health issues for a significant period of time.

“On the part of Mr Adams there is some dispute regarding the act he was performing. He was standing in the back lane and the residents got out of bed and looked out the window and saw him.”

The court heard how Adams had been an inpatient at various mental health hospitals over they years.

Mr Wilson added: “He’s ashamed and embarrassed because he had put behaviour of this nature behind him. He is at a loss as to why he behaved in this way.”

The bench adjourned the case until October 29 but warned Adams all options were available, including custody.
