A man has been fined for running off without paying a taxi fare twice in 24 hours.

Lee Robson took the first taxi from Newcastle city centre to his home in Gladstone Street, Sunderland, in the early hours of October 10.

When it pulled up, he jumped over a fence and went inside. Police found the 25-year-old in bed.

He was arrested and on his release from the police station took another taxi home – and again didn’t pay.

Robson pleaded guilty to making off without payment at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £55 and ordered to pay £33 compensation.
