A SUNDERLAND man accused of sending threatening messages to Northumbria Police via Twitter has been denied bail.

John Eggleston is alleged to have sent an number of “serious threats” on the social network.

Eggleston, 42, of East Moor Road, Pallion, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief hearing before Sunderland magistrates yesterday.

No pleas were entered, and District Judge Roger Elsey remanded Eggleston in custody until Friday, September 20, when he is due before Newcastle Crown Court.
