Sunderland man charged with attempted murder after attack left victim with 'serious' head injuries

A man will appear before magistrates charged with attempted murder following an attack in a Sunderland street.

Danny Stothard, 28, of Primrose Street, Sunderland, has been charged with attempted murder following the attack in Claxheugh Road, South Hylton.

Northumbria Police was called to the street shortly before 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 29 and found a 29-year-old man, who was unconscious with serious head injuries.

He remains in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital.

Stothard was remanded in custody by officers and is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside on Friday, January 31.

A second man, aged 25, who was assisting officers with their inquiries, has been released with no further action.
