Sunderland fugitive in court over £7m drugs conspiracy

A FUGITIVE from Sunderland has been arrested and brought before a court in connection with a £7m drugs supply conspiracy.

Stuart Mottram was believed to have fled abroad before he could be tried over his involvement in the plot to import high-grade amphetamine into the Uk.

The 47-year-old, from Sunderland, was brought back to face justice under a European arrest warrant after a manhunt by the National Crime Agency.

He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court today via videolink to HMP Durham accused of one charge of conspiracy to import class B drugs.

No pleas were entered during the hearing.

Mottram will be back before the court on May 7, and was remanded in custody in the meantime.

A trial date has been provisionally listed for October 12.
