Sunderland drunk banned from every Spar in the country after stealing beer

A DRUNK who was banned from every branch of a convenience store in England and Wales stole beer to feed his addiction to booze.

Trevor Palmer, from Sunderland, walked into a branch of Spar in Chester Road and walked out with 30 cans of lager, worth £20.

The thief was identified by a member of staff from CCTV footage and arrested, when he confessed all to police.

Palmer, 21, pleaded guilty to the theft at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

He had been banned from going into any Spar store as part of his bail conditions, after being arrested following the theft on April 21. Prosecutor Stephen Davies told the bench that Palmer picked up two slabs of Carlsberg and left the store without paying.

Anna Haq, defending him, and was facing another two charges at the city court, for being drunk and disorderly.

She added that Palmer had successfully completed a Prince’s Trust course, but was said he was dependent on alcohol and was already serving two community orders.

Palmer, of Perth Road, Plains Farm, was given a six-month conditional discharge by Sunderland magistrates.
