A THIEF stole clothes to pay off his kids’ drugs debt, a court was told.

Wayne Jolley, 41, was stopped leaving a branch of River Island in Sheffield, with 12 handbags worth £611.

Then on May 31, he was caught stealing £220 worth of goods from Asda in The Galleries, Washington. Jolly, of Hepburn Grove, Hylton Castle, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

Joanne Gatens, defending, said Jolley had been threatened over drug debts relating to his children. He was given a 12-month community order.
