Daniel Stores, 38, of Pennygate Square, South Hylton, Sunderland, carried out the terrifying attack against the woman, who he had dated for three years, South Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard.

Prosecutor Glenda Beck said it came just over a year after their relationship began to fizzle out after the woman caught him texting another girl while they holidayed in Thailand.

She said they agreed to meet outside her mother’s home to sort out their difficulties – but that violence ensued.

And she added: “They split up about four weeks before the incident, and they had been amiable. He was constantly contacting her and she replied to some.”

Mrs Beck said they got out of their vehicles but Stores quickly quizzed her by saying, ‘How long have you been going with him?’

The woman then jumped straight into her vehicle, and Mrs Beck added: “He drove into the side and the back bumper, and then reversed and drove into the side.”

Tom Morgan, defending, said Stores denied driving his Mercedes into her car three times as alleged by the prosecution.

He insisted his client had done so from behind only once, which was the basis of his guilty plea to dangerous driving.

He added: “You’ve heard the details, and the account that the defendant gives is at odds with what she says.

“He accepts that he’s collided with the rear of her vehicle on one occasion.

“It’s accepted that this crosses the custody threshold. He’s not been in trouble with the courts since 2008.”

Stores, who also admitted driving without insurance and without a licence, was bailed to appear at the crown court on Monday, August 3, on condition he does not contact his ex.
