Sunderland dad attacked with metal bar while out with his children at Hendon beach

Police are investigating after a dad-of-two was attacked while out on a stroll with his children at Hendon beach earlier this month.

Officers were called shortly after 7.30am on Wednesday, April 8, to reports that a man had been assaulted while out on a walk with his two teenage children near the promenade at Hendon beach in Sunderland.

The attacker is said to have approached the victim and attacked him with a metal bar - that was sheathed in red plastic - before fleeing the scene.

The victim did not suffer any serious injuries but was left shaken by the incident.

An investigation is now ongoing and police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to come forward to help with their enquiries.

The man, believed to be in his early 40s, is described as white, 5ft 7 inches tall and of a stocky build.

Police have described him as having shaved brown hair, prominent tattoos on his arms and lower neck, and was wearing a blue T-shirt and red shorts at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.30pm on April 8, officers were told that a man had been assaulted while he was walking with his two teenage children near the promenade at Hendon beach.

“Thankfully, the victim did not suffer any serious injuries but was left shaken by the incident, which was witnessed by members of the public nearby.”
