Sunderland city centre sex attack by student

A STUDENT followed a woman across a deserted city centre before sexually assaulting her.

Mehdi Kayhanfar was caught on CCTV shadowing the woman out of Sunderland’s Glass Spider nightclub in the early hours of March 3.

The 26-year old Iranian national, who had been pestering his victim inside the bar, tailed her for some time before he pulled her into a bus stop where he tried to kiss her.

The 20-year-old managed to push him away before police, who had been contacted by watching CCTV operators, arrived at the scene.

The woman told officers she was left frightened because of the fact she had been followed.

Kayhanfar, of Argyle Square, Sunderland, admitted sexual assault.

Judge John Evans gave him a two-year community order, with programme and supervision requirements.

The judge said: “You need to make sure you don’t repeat this behaviour, otherwise I am sure you will find yourself subject to a deportation order.”

Tony Hawks, defending, said Kayhanfar has been “brought up short” by the incident and stopped drinking and going out.
