SUNDERLAND City Council today confirmed that a child rapist had been released from custody.

It comes after the Echo revealed how the now 13-year-old had served less than half his sentence for raping a nine-year-old.

Meg Boustead, Sunderland City Council’s Head of Safeguarding (Children’s Services), said: “We can confirm that the young person involved has been subject to a planned released on licence after serving the custodial part of his sentence.

“Following his release, he has been placed with a specialist accommodation provider in a different part of the country.

“This placement has been identified as suitable to manage his assessed level of risk and to also meet his own needs.”
