Stolen van set on fire

THIEVES stole a van then torched it.

The white Transit Connect was taken from outside a house in Doxford Park, Sunderland, on Wednesday between 6pm-9.20pm.

It was discovered on fire in Stockton Road shortly after 9.30pm.

Firefighters reported the blaze to police, who realised it was the van which had been stolen from Cam Mead.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At 9.36pm, police were informed by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service that a van was on fire in Stockton Road.

“It was established it was the same van that had been stolen.”
