Spate of Wearside break-ins

Have your say

BURGLARS have been sneaking into houses through open doors and windows.

Police are warning Wearsiders to lock out thieves after a spate of break-ins took place across the city.

Neighbourhood Inspector Cheryl Warcup said: “We’re focusing our efforts on those responsible for break-ins and thefts and are asking residents to help us by making it even harder for them in the first place.

“Leaving a home insecure means it is an easy target for thieves, especially if valuable items or even keys are left on display.

“We don’t just want people to make sure they’re homes are secure though and are asking them to make sure sheds and outhouses are securely locked.

“People often don’t realise the value of items they keep in a shed but it all adds up.

“It only takes a few moments to make sure everything is secure but it could prove crucial in helping stop people from becoming victims of crime and sends out a clear message to burglars and thieves that they’re not welcome.”
