TWO women accused of having thousands of pounds of stolen goods will have their case heard at crown court.

Sisters Caitlyn Bainbridge, 18, and Claire Bainbridge, 21, both of The Crescent, West Rainton, have been charged with conspiracy to steal, dating from January.

Police searched their home on Tuesday and seized a large quantity of items they believe have been stolen from shops.

The pair were at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where neither entered a plea.

The case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court, where they will appear on June 18.

Claire Bainbridge was remanded in custody until then, while Caitlyn Bainbridge was released on bail.

Northumbria Police Superintendent Alan Veitch said: “As part of Operation Soundwave, we continue to make proactive inquiries into those suspected of being involved in theft and burglary across the force.

“Shoplifting operations are continuing across Sunderland and the force, with local teams working with shop security staff to target known thieves and prevent offences from taking place, and officers are taking enforcement action when thefts do occur.”
