A THIEF has been jailed after a shoplifting expedition in Wearside stores.

A number of Sunderland city centre shops were targeted in the spree, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

Victoria Clark stole lip gloss, a hair slide and other goods from Peacocks, in Sunderland, on February 2.

But the petty thief had not finished there.

The 36-year-old also helped herself to two gift sets from the Lush handmade cosmetics store, in The Bridges on the same day .

At the time Clark, of Lincoln Road, South Shields, was on a suspended sentence for earlier offending.

Her previous convictions include more shop thefts and violence towards police officers and the public.

Clark had pleaded guilty to two charges of theft at a previous court hearing.

Judge Roger Thorn QC sentenced Clark to nine months’ imprisonment.

Jane Foley, defending, has told the crown court at an earlier hearing: “Her thieving may be as a result of her depression.”
