A SHOPLIFTER was caught leaving a supermarket with a basket of goods twice in two weeks.

Andrew Haikney walked past staff and out of Sainsbury’s, in Station Terrace, East Boldon, without paying for the food and drink.

But the 26-year-old was identified by police officers who saw CCTV.

Haikney, of Railway Terrace, Penshaw, admitted theft on January 21 and February 3.

The goods were worth £95.

Val Bell, defending, said: “He was going through a difficult time when this occurred.”

South Tyneside Magistrates gave Haikney a six-month community order.
