A MAN was due to appear in court accused of sexually assaulting a boy under 13 years old.

John Andrew Malcolm, 25, faces charges of attempted rape and sexual touching.

He also faces two charges of criminal damage to a police cell on September 24 and 25.

Malcolm appeared in Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on September 26, when town justices remanded him in custody.

No plea was entered or bail application made.

Malcolm, of no fixed address, was due at Durham Crown Court today.

Peterlee Police had appealed for information after an alleged incident.

A boy was allegedly attacked in the Chapel Hill Road area of Peterlee.

A 54-year-old man, arrested at the time, has been released with no further action.
