Self-service tills warning

SHOPPERS are being asked to be vigilant when using self-service tills at supermarkets.

The warning from South Tyneside police, who cover Whitburn, Cleadon and Boldon, comes after a growing number of reports of thefts after customers have left the tills without taking their requested cashback or notes given out in change.

The dispensed money has then been taken by another person.

Detective Sergeant Ed Hedley said: “I would urge customers to remember to take all their items with them when using these tills, including any change or cash back as left behind it can present an opportunity to thieves.”
