A MAN has been arrested following a street fight which left one man wounded.

Police were called shortly before 1pm today, when calls were made about a number of men brawling in Thackeray Road, Thorney Close, Sunderland.

One man is believed to have received an injury caused by a bladed weapon but he left the area without speaking to police or receiving treatment.

Officers are appealing for him to get in touch so they can speak to him about the incident and check on his welfare.

They are also appealing for witnesses to the disturbance to get in contact.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and is in custody helping with inquiries.

Detective Inspector Alan Cairns said: “We’re carrying out enquiries to find out what happened and trace those involved, and a man has been arrested and is helping with inquiries. “We’re particularly keen to trace a man who was assaulted with what we believe to be a bladed weapon during the incident but who we have not yet traced.

“We need to speak to him to ensure he has received treatment, and to speak to him about the incident.

“At this stage we do believe those involved are known to each other and house to house enquiries are taking place in the area.”

Extra patrols are taking place in the area to reassure residents and gather information.
