A MAN carrying a metal pole threatened shop workers before fleeing with £200.

He walked into Tesco Express store in Stockton Road, Seaham, and handed over a note to two workers, demanding they hand over cash from the till.

Fearing the robber may turn violent, they handed over the cash.

The man then walked out of the store, before heading turning left and heading down the bank towards the Mill Inn pub.

He was described as about 5ft 7in tall, medium build and spoke with a local accent.

He wore a dirty brown cap and was believed to be between 35 and 45.

Police said there were a number of customers in the shop before and during the robbery, who they would like to hear from.

It took place on Sunday at about 7.30pm.
