A SCHOOLBOY rapist posed as a girl on Facebook to persuade teenage lads to send him explicit photographs of themselves.

The youth, from Sunderland, set up a fictional account on the social networking site and convinced his “friends” he was a flirty 16-year-old female.

But the profile was a ruse to get hold of naked pictures of teenage boys.

The teen, who cannot be named, was arrested after he confessed to a pal, who he had also duped, what he had done and threatened to post the pictures he had been sent on the internet.

While on bail for the sickening scam, the youth raped a seven-year-old boy and sexually abused a 10-year-old lad.

Newcastle Crown Court heard the youth was just 15 when he posed as the Facebook fraudster.

Prosecutor Katherine Dunn said the teen told a good pal he should befriend the “girl” on the site, which he did.

Miss Dunn said: “It suggested they should show each other their private parts, indeed ‘she’ sent a photograph of a naked girl to the boy then asked him to send a picture of himself.

“She was in fact a fictional character made up by this defendant and in due course he told his friend he was in fact the ‘girl’.

“The defendant told him he had done the same to many other people in his school.”

The youth was arrested after his stunned friend told his parents what had been going on.

Miss Dunn added: “He made full admissions and stated he set up the Facebook account in the name of a girl. He pretended to be this girl.

“He set up the account for the purpose of getting people to send him naked photos.

“He obtained a photograph of a female then sent that on, pretending it was the girl.

“He said he would get boys in particular to send him pictures he would download onto his laptop.

“He said he didn’t put any on the internet.”

When police searched his computer they found 20 such photographs.

They also found 46 illegal pornographic movies, which were not of his friends.

It was while on bail the teenager carried out sex attacks on the two youngsters.

The court heard the victims and their families have been left “devastated” by their ordeals.

Judge John Evans said he was satisfied the youth posed a risk to the public and sentenced him to two years’ detention with an extended two year licence period.

The judge said in reality the defendant would be behind bars for a year and spend the remaining three on licence.

The youth has to register as a sex offender for 10 years and abide by a sexual offences prevention order for the same period.

Amanda Rippon, defending, said the youth, who is now 17, has matured since he committed the offences and now recognises the impact he has had on his victims.

The youth had admitted charges of rape, sexual activity with a child, making and possessing indecent photographs and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
