Rucksack stolen in attack

A MAN was punched and had his rucksack stolen in a terrifying attack.

The 22-year-old victim was walking in the underpass beneath Durham Road, near the Royal Court apartments which lead to the Sunderland University Metro station.

Three men then approached him from behind before threatening him and demanding he give them his rucksack.

A struggle then took place before the trio stole his bag and made off.

The victim was punched in the face and suffered minor injuries.

The first man who carried out the attack was 6ft 2in tall, with short mousey hair.

He had a goatee beard, pale complexion and was of average build.

He wore a white sports jacket at the time of the attack.

The second man was about 5ft 9in tall and aged about 19.

He had short, dark-brown hair, was clean shaven and also had a pale complexion.

He was of thin build and was wearing a dark sports jacket.

The third man was also white with short brown hair.

He was wearing a dark tracksuit.

The incident happened at 9.40pm on Monday.

Northumbria Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
