A drink-driver has been banned from the roads for three years after being caught over the limit twice in 10 years.

Nigel Brooks, 35, was stopped by officers on June 26, after he was seen driving erratically on Wessington Way, Sunderland, magistrates heard.

Brooks, of Castle Road, Prudhoe, Northumberland, had 57mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. He admitted drink driving for a second time since 2006.

He told the court he thought he was below the limit when he took his girlfriend on a romantic drive to the coast. He was fined £360.
