Reports of 'distressed' man with metal bar in Sunderland street as police called to disturbance

Police have been called to reports a man in a distressed state was shouting in a Sunderland street while in possession of a metal bar.

Officers from Northumbria Police were called to Gladstone Street, off Roker Avenue, at 12.15pm on Thursday, June 10, to reports of a disturbance.

No one was injured during the incident but officers have asked that any witnesses come forward and speak to police.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 12.15pm today (Thursday) we received a report of a disturbance on Gladstone Street, Sunderland.

“It was reported that a man was in a distressed state and was shouting in the street while in possession of a metal bar. Nobody was injured.

“Officers attended the scene but the male had already left the area. Anyone with information can contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log 471 100621.”
