POLICE are hunting thieves after more than 200 litres of red diesel was stolen from a farm on Wearside.

The diesel was taken between 11pm on Wednesday, November 7, and 8am on Thursday, November 8, from West Moor Farm on Washington Road in Usworth.

Red diesel is low-tax fuel which is dyed red and is for use only in registered agricultural or construction vehicles such as tractors, excavators, cranes and some other non-road applications such as boats.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “We are asking for anyone who was in the area and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact officers in Sunderland on the 101 non-emergency number.”
