A CAR radio was swiped by thieves from a vehicle in Sunderland.

It happened between 12pm on Saturday, April 11 and 12.30pm on Sunday, April 12, when a radio was stolen from a car parked in Dunbar Street, off Chester Road.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Laverick said: “Unfortunately opportunist thieves do operate and while we continue to target and arrest those people suspected of being involved in such crimes it’s important people take crime prevention steps.

“It only takes a few moments for a thief to open a car window or door and steal something from inside.

“I’d urge people to remove anything valuable from their car, even if only leaving it for a few moments and particularly when parked up overnight.

“If this isn’t possible the items should be hidden in the boot out of sight with nothing left on few.

“It’s vital the car is locked whenever it’s left.

“We continue to do everything possible to trace those responsible for opportunist thefts and burglaries and would urge anyone with information about these offences to get in touch with police.”

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 0562 12/04/15 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
