THUGS slashed a pub worker after he tried to break up a fight.

The gang attacked the 57-year-old man after they were asked to leave a pub in Sunderland’s East End on Saturday night.

Trouble began in the Hearts of Oak pub when fight broke out at around 11.30pm.

A number of drinkers were asked to leave the bar in Church Street East and as the doors were closing, a glass was thrown at the man and his hands slashed with a blade.

The gang then damaged a blue Mazda parked outside the pub before running off.

The victim was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
