A THIEF stole more than £100-worth of groceries from a supermarket.

Liam Hall, of High Street West, Sunderland, was caught on CCTV putting soft drinks, pastries, chocolates, protein powder and deodorant into a trolley in Asda, South Shields, on June 28.

The 21-year-old then transferred them into carrier bags and left.

A security guard spotted him and called the police who arrested him outside the store.

Hall appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to theft.

He was given a six-month community order with supervision.

He was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.

The court was told Hall had two short jail terms in May and September after failing to comply with previous community orders.
