A SERIAL thief stole from a supermarket just a fortnight after being spared jail for similar offending.

Kirk Scott was given a suspended prison sentence on April 20 for driving offences and shoplifting.

Newcastle Crown Court heard he was caught stealing £154 worth of aftershave from Morrisons, in Jarrow, on May 8.

The 30-year-old, of Hendon, Sunderland, who has 103 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to theft and breach of a suspended sentence.

Judge Paul Sloan QC sentenced him to a community order for 12 months with 40 hours’ unpaid work.

The judge said a non-custodial disposal was possible as Scott has spent the equivalent of a two-month sentence on remand and has been working well with those trying to help him.
