Police warning as fake £20 hit Durham shops

Have your say

COUNTERFEIT currency is being used to try and dupe city centre stores into taking fake £20 notes.

Fraudsters have been targeting business in and around Durham, with the conmen trying to use the forged notes in shops including JD Sports, Jack Wills and Triple 2.

Police have linked all three of the incidents, which happened over the weekend, as the men attempted to use the money to buy trainers and t-shirts.

Police have warned people to be on their guard when taking cash and say shop workers are being much more vigilant after the incidents.
