Police use saws to force their way into 'large' cannabis farm set up in village industrial unit

Police used saws to cut through the metal shutters of an industrial unit as they made their way into a cannabis farm.

Durham Constabulary forced their way into the disused Easington Colliery unit using the tools following a tip off from the village, with one arrest made at the scene as part of inquiries.

The investigation continues today, Tuesday, November 2, following the discovery of drugs being grown inside the building, with the plants since cleared from the site.

Anyone with information has been asked to get in touch with officers.

A spokesperson for the Seaham and Easington Police team said: “Officers executed a magistrates' warrant at an unused commercial building in Easington Colliery following information received from the local community.

"Inside, officers have dismantled a large cannabis grow and one person was detained.

“We continue to encourage our local community to report any suspicious activity by contacting Durham Police via the non emergency 101 number.”
