Police officers hit new heights with mountain challenge

A TEAM of officers are scaling new heights as they tackle the three peaks for a good cause.

The group of 18, including 15 Nortumbria Police officers, will climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Snowden in Wales in 24 hours.

They hope their gruelling charity challenge will raise much-needed cash for Columbia Grange School, in Washington, which caters for pupils, aged two to 11, with autism spectrum disorder and severe learning difficulties.

The money will go towards improvements to the school’s sensory park.

Pc Steve Grainger, of Washington Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Officers are regular visitors to the school and have built up strong links with pupils and staff.

“When we heard the school needed help with funding towards their sensory park we were keen to help out.

“We are determined to team up and face this challenge to help the pupils.”

The team, which includes members of Sunderland Council, Gentoo and The Galleries, will set off on Saturday to tackle 3,407 metre climb.
