Police officer suffers face injury in incident involving patient at Sunderland medical practice

A POLICE officer suffered facial injuries in an incident involving a patient at Fulwell Medical Centre.

Northumbria Police has stepped up patrols in the are after the disturbance at the medical practice in Ebdon Lane.

Officers were called to the practice at about 3.30pm yesterday.

A man, in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Officers are still to release details about the nature of the disturbance.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Cole said police will be in and around Fulwell to offer reassurance to any residents who are concerned and answer any queries they have.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Cole said: “We know residents in the area are concerned about this incident and I would like to reassure them we have extra officers in the area to answer any concerns they might have.

“The incident was dealt with quickly, officers attended and the man was detained.

“Although a police officer was injured during the incident, no members of the public or other people in the surgery were hurt.”
