Police hunt Sunderland sex attacker

Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Washington the early hours of this morning.

Around 2am today, Saturday September 28, a 19-year-old woman was walking in Spout Lane, near to the subway to Washington village, when she was approached by a man who began talking to her.

After walking away from the male he ran after her and pushed her to the ground before touching her inappropriately.

She screamed and the offender ran off.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident and was left extremely shaken.

Police have described the offender as being white, in his late 20’s, around 6ft tall and of slim build. He had short brown hair and was wearing a dark hooded top.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and there are officers in the Washington area today speaking to people and appealing for information.

Detective Sergeant Steve Wallace, said: “This was an extremely frightening and traumatic experience for the victim and we are doing all we can to identify the man responsible.

“We want to speak to anyone who was in Spout Lane or Western Terrace area this morning and might have seen anything that could help us locate who did this.

“There are officers in the area today and if you have any information, or concerns, then please speak to us in person or by calling 101.”
