Police hunt driver of red Nissan following suspected hit and run on North Moor Lane in Sunderland

Police are searching for the driver involved in a suspected hit and run in Sunderland which saw one man taken to hospital.

Officers were called to North Moor Lane in Sunderland at around 2.15pm on Wednesday, January 12 following a collision between a moped and a car.

The male rider of the moped was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

But the car that was involved – believed to be a red Nissan – had already left the scene, and police are now looking to trace the driver as part of their ongoing investigation.

PC Graham Smith , of Northumbria Police, said: “This was a nasty collision which resulted in a man being taken to hospital.

"Thankfully, they did not suffer serious injuries and have since been discharged.

“However, we are taking this incident seriously and are now appealing for the driver of the vehicle involved to come forward.

“We would also ask anyone who witnessed the collision or who was travelling on North Moor Road at the time of the collision to check any dashcam footage and get in touch.”
