Police hunt after man suffers neck injury in Sunderland street

POLICE are investigating an assault on a 23-year-old man in Sunderland.

It happened in the street in Salem Street South, on Saturday, May 31, at approximately 1.30pm.

The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment to a neck injury. He was later released from hospital.

Officers believe the injured man arrived at a party at a nearby address early that morning with several other people present.

Officers would like to speak to the other people at the party and to the people who arrived in the taxi to the party with the victim.

They would also like to speak to the taxi driver who had four male passengers when he dropped them off at around 6.30am - 7.30am on Saturday May 31.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
